Is tobacco a necessity? World No-Tobacco Day: 31-5-2010
Posted by : Vasanthkumar Mysoremath on 5/30/2010
Every 8th second a person is dying from diseases related with consumption of tobacco products. Each victim is deserting his family and is also making our country loose valuable work force. If he is a doctor or engineer or a highly qualified person, the money spent on his education and livelihood is lost for ever.

A Seminar on TOBACCO KILLS is organised jointly by Institution of Engineers and Mysore Grahakara Parishath on 31-5-2010 at 5 PM at SP Bhat Hall, JLB Road, Mysore to interact with public and to elicite their views to eliminate tobacco from the face of the earth.

This topic is an ongoing discussion to get public opinion and to impress upon the governments to initiate action to gradually reduce cultivation, procurement, production, marketing and sale of all forms of tobacco products that are available at every nook and corner of our country.

Please post your views

Gram Panchayat Polls - VOTE YOU MUST
Posted by : Vasanthkumar Mysoremath on 4/30/2010
VOTE YOU MUST – Grama Panchayat Elections on 8th May 2010 in Karnataka – 16 districts – No.of seats: 43,755 – No.of candidates in the fray: 94,000 – Elected unopposed: 3,144

India is passing through a lot of troubled times; terrorism, internal unrest through hate mongering, playing on the communal, emotional and sentimental feelings of the gullible people in the name of religion and gods. This does not augur well for India and its efforts to take India to the level of super power in the world. We do not have to become victims of such game plans and must nip such acts in the bud since the greatest achievement of India – unity in diversity – is being threatened and certain leaders and parties are trying their level best to breach the wall of peaceful and harmonious living conditions that have always

Be Proactive citizens:

Every citizen should become a force to reckon with, be proactive, exercise his franchise without fear or favor and herald a secular and stable government at the center so that all of us can live peacefully and in a harmonious environment. We do not want a society that is vertically or horizontally split on communal lines, we do not want a ‘hate one another syndrome’, we do not want to be haunted by various kinds of –isms. Even before the election results are announced, certain parties have unleashed the draconian hidden agenda of hatred-ness and communal bias. This has sent a chill down the spines of people belonging to different communities and they just know what to do to stop such anti-people policies. Pseudo secularism or nepotism are not the need of the hour, we need to live in a real secular world and we have lived without hate and bloodshed or personal attacks based on extreme jingoisms.

Peaceful and green world:

We need good governance, we need food, shelter and basic infrastructure. Indians have that uncanny ability to stem the rot whenever it has set in amidst our society and to bounce back as a vibrant democracy. We need to think in a holistic manner and exercise our franchise without fear or favor for taking India further as a force to reckon with in international forums and not as a weak country riddled with communal hatred-ness against each other.

It is now or never

- Vote for safeguarding democracy
- Vote for safety and secularism;
- Vote for peace;
- Vote for stability
- Vote for eleminating corruption
- Vote without fear or favor
- Vote for harmonious coexistence of all people of this greatest living democracy in the world.

Vinaya Marga or Vidi "illada" Marga needs restructuring.
Posted by : BN on 4/28/2010
Vinaya Marga or Vidhi "illada" marga is an important thorough fare which is part and parcel of Siddharthanagar and is always buzzing with shoppers mostly comprising of elderly people and youngsters doing rounds for thier shopping needs. In recent times Vinaya marga's commercial establishments have doubled in number to cater to the needs of the evergrowing shoppers. But this comes with a cliche because the shoppers park thier vehicles haphazardly in an unorganised manner leading to utter chaos for the pedestrians and elderly citizens to manage.
I request the concerned traffic authorities to tackle this issue on priority basis by restricting vehicle parking on one side (alternating basis) as followed in other busy through fares of Mysore.

Electricity bill payment made easy for citizens
Posted by : Vasanthkumar Mysoremath on 3/1/2010
Consequent to complaints over inconvenience being caused for bill payments for electricity consumed due to counters being far away from the residential areas, CESCOM and Indian Postal Department have agreed for bills collection at major post offices throughout Mysore city.

Action taken by CESCOM is very much appreciated and that is the way to respond to make life of aam aadmi that much comfortable.

Similarly, kindly reduce the unscheduled power cuts that are affected the citizens and student community in particular.

Are they converting Mysore into a trafic signals delight
Posted by : RAJENDRA PRASAD S on 2/11/2010
in recent times I have observed that every cross road in the city traffic signals are being installed. I am in no way objecting the actions initiatives taken for the smooth flow of traffic. But in certain areas where the traffic barring the peak hours will be in the minimum scale , these signals will add to the neck in the pain of the common commuters. The JLB road for example we have 5 signals from railway station to Ramaswamy Circle, syncronising the signals being impossible due to techinical reasons think the plight of the commuters to cross a distance of 2 kms he has to pass 5 signals.Installing signals in circles is also a thing not warranted. A cop during the rush hours will do a good job

cutting down trees on lalitha mahal road serves no purpose
Posted by : K.S.BADARINARAYAN on 1/11/2010
In the wake unmindful cutting down of trees and damaging public property by unruly mob in the wake of a recent death on Lalitha Mahal road is no means of attaining solution for accidents occuring on this busy Lalitha mahal road.
Some interesting points to ponder over are:
1. A glaring apathy by the corporation officials in being proactive is that there is no single street light nor Zebra crossing for pedestrian crossing on this busy stretch of road.
2. Even after several traffic skirmishes not a single Traffic personnel is posted on this busy stretch thus throwing all traffic rules and regulations to the gallows.
3. Removing the bottlenecks in completion of the ring road connectivity between nanjungud road and bannur road will definitely result in bypassing all the heavy trucks which enter the inner city roads thus easing the pollution and chaos.
4. No matter whatsoever widening of this road the main bottleneck in the form of the Huge Kamaan gate stands in the way restricting and throttling traffic passing through it and resulting in silent cursing by the motorists passing through this gate.
5. Stopping the Illegal sand laden trucks from using this road and restricting the parking of these trucks on the vacant open site opposite Brigade Splendour Apartment will certainly alleviate major traffic problems.
6. Placing Barricades on this busy road serves no purpose as it is increasing traffic jams and creating in more pollution and chaos.

I hope the authorities will look into all these issues and put in their heads and think futuristic and arrive at a scientific solution thus saving the greenery as well as innocent precious human lives.

Mysore Race club needs to Buck Up
Posted by : K.S.BADARINARAYAN on 1/3/2010
Mysore race club Limited situated on M.L.Somasundaram circle founded by the then Mysore Maharaja way back in 1891. Nowadays it has become a very popular venue for Punters to place in their bets hoping of doubling their money. In this context the I would like to highlight that the race club is having one of the Totalizator counters [see picture]facing a busy M.G.Road, wherein the punters along with their autos and vehicles park their vehicles haphazardly on this road facing the Totalizator counter thereby making it difficult for other motorists and vehicles who wade through this road silently cursing the authorities and Punters. Hence the Race Club authorities should try to re-plan this Totalizator counter facing the road and create a salubrious environment for other motorists.

Posted by : Syed Qadeer on 12/13/2009
Dear Mr. Vasanth Kumar, i have been reading your response in Mysore Next since long time and appreciate your efforts done to improve Mysore condition. Please keep up the good work.

I would like to request you and others who are willing to look into the below matter...

The Sawday road from Mission hospital to Mohammed Said Block is horrible and in worst condition.... i have not seen any of the corporators done any improvements...Every time i visit Mysore i feel so sad by seeing all the dirt and damaged roads, road side shops using almost half of the roads and Rickshaw walas dominating the road with their rash driving.

I request you and others to please bring this matter to MCC authorities to take some action and improve the condition in and around these areas...

Being here in Qatar, if i can be of any help please do let me know.

Regards,

Syed Qadeer

CHAWALA PUTLI PARK
Posted by : syedkhadermasood on 12/11/2009
While having a early morning walk around PUTLI PARK remind you the great old traditions of mysore and its beauty.Keeping in line with this this park is under renovation .A great sight indeed. Also you get to see a chawala trying to meethis end by selling tea whole dat may be till late evening sometimes at the entrance and sometimes moved down upto road near Nalpad. Its good to see this man deprived of opportunity working hard to meet his ends. But he has thrown the legal aspects like obtaining prior permission and hygeine ti dust bin.Who is to blame for this. The wheel cart is shabbily painted with traces of rust likely to fly due to wind and falling in the tea he sells. What will happen if one drinks this tea contaminated with dust particles medical experts can outline. But the sight of well dressed students parking their vehicles sippimg tea and throwing the tea cups all around is distressing.I have heard Singapore has excellent infra structure and also known for cleaniness. What I have heard strict penalties are imposed for littering .One agress we cannot expect our authorities to give usa infrastructure like Singapore but certaily a cleanliness close to it in ourown hands and authorities. These students who care a dam for hygeine and cleanliness should be penalised .This may help us to keep our city clean. The chawala who is hard worker no doubt needs a orientation or may be sponsership to help him do this business with a planned aproach like properly painted wheel cart and a proper arrangement for disposal of waste cups .Looking at the vface of chawala he looks as if he is willing to do all these things but his looks give an impression no mone is there to support me and guide me.These type of guys willing to work hard the authorities should take note and guide them by providing a good wheel cart which should look beautiful may be the banks can finance them on a long term basis .All this will add up to clealiness ,hygeine and beauty of Mysore.

Traffic Discpline
Posted by : Basavaraj K on 10/11/2009
I feel most of the Mysoreans forgot or they are reluctant to follow the traffic rules.Nobody bothers to care for the - whether it is lane discipline or light signal.95% of the people does'nt wear helmet.Even the police people also don't ask because many of the police too don't wear helmet.People drive their vehicles helter-skelter, when other road users ask them to drive properly, the drivers bounce on them like wild animals and use vulgar words and often they are ready to fight with other road users and treaten them.Due to such type of hooligan behaviour the tourist people from different part of the world who are visiting Mysore will spread the News. Before it is too late the Police fraternity should take strict actions.I know it is not that easy to track the bad elements on road but if effort is put surely they will succeed.

Trafic bottleneck at Ramaswamy Circle - a suggestion
Posted by : RAJENDRA PRASAD S on 9/10/2009
I have brought this suggestion long back through the locl news papers. The road leading from Hotel airlines ( old name ) to the Ramaswamy Circle was made one way long back, It was learnt that this was due to the influence and pressure of the petrol pump situated at Ramaswamy Circle, to enable them to have their business smoothly run. Now the petrl pump is closed and the vehicles entering the Ramaswamy Circle have to come to the RTO Circle or the Maharaja College circle as result the traffic on the JLB road between the RTO Circle and Ramaswamy Circle is very dense and has result in traffic jam ( since big bazar is also situated in this strech). The traffic on the road which is one way is not much and the stretch always looksdeseted, the traffic authorities should look into the suggestion and restore two way traffic in the strech for minimizing the traffic in JLB road and also help the commuters comming from Saraswathipuram area
